Thursday, December 22nd, 2022: Syracuse Academy of Science Middle Schoolers enjoyed the annual 7th-grade ice skating field trip! It was a beautiful day in Clinton Square, with maybe just a couple of falls but lots of smiles and laughter! The perfect way to spend the last day before winter break!
Monday, January 9th, 2023: Now through January 20th, Syracuse Academy of Science Elementary School is leading a donation drive for the non-profit organization "We Rise Above the Streets Recovery Outreach, Inc." This charity has been led by Al-amin Muhammad for over five years and has focused on advocating for homeless/underrepresented populations in Syracuse. The organization helps provide these groups with food, clothing, and basic hygiene items. Every Saturday, Al-amin and his crew of volunteers host a 'Sandwich Saturday' at 10 am in Billings Park, where they hand out food and other necessities to individuals and families struggling to provide for themselves. The charity's main mission is to help break the cycle of homelessness and crime by showing them how to live to their full potential.
We will collect new children and adult winter apparel and travel-sized hygiene products to donate to "We Rise Above the Streets" at the end of the month. If your student brings in three items, they will earn one dress-down pass. We encourage you to make a difference and share the warmth!

Thursday, December 22nd, 2022: It may be January and the start of a brand new year, but we're highlighting our December students of the month at Syracuse Academy of Science elementary school. Before going on break, SAS Elementary celebrated December's character trait of Caring/Compassion. Caring is showing kindness and concern for others. Compassion is showing and having that concern for the misfortunes or sufferings of others. Students from each grade were selected for showing December's character trait and celebrated all day. Please join us in congratulating these caring and compassionate Atoms!

Students got to bowl a game and utilize their math skills to help keep score. It was the best of both worlds! Atoms also did a great job of showing the month's character trait, compassion, by cheering each other on and urging each other to do their best.
Everyone had a great time, and can't wait to go back again!
Monday, December 19th, 2022: Syracuse Academy of Science high school students had the chance to show off their artistic talents at the SAS HS Winter Music Concert and Art Show. Students from grades 9th through 12th art courses showcased their printmaking, mixed-media, ink, collage, and 3D art forms. Students even helped curate displays for the exhibition. Voice students who received vocal coaching from Ms. Carlson and guest artists performed solos and duets from diverse genres.
Band students played music they workshopped on a visit to Ithaca College earlier in the fall and music by conductor and composer Sean O'Loughlin. Mr. O'Loughlin visited students Friday to regale them with stories from working in the L.A. music industry and inspire them to learn and work hard in music and school. We enjoyed celebrating students' hard work this fall and welcoming the winter season with a reception sponsored by Wegmans following the concert.
