Thank You Veterans For Your Service

In honor of Veterans Day, Syracuse Academy of Science students in Ms. Bloss’ 2nd grade class expresses their gratitude to veterans by writing letters and creating a video thanking them for their service.

Wednesday, November 10th, 2021In honor of Veterans Day, Syracuse Academy of Science Atoms in Ms. Bloss’ 2nd grade class put their creativity to the test when expressing their gratitude to veterans in the greater Syracuse area. Students wrote special letters to veterans and shared what Veterans Day means to them, and colored pictures. These letters will be delivered to the Syracuse VA Medical Center. The student's creativity, hard work, kindness and generosity does not end there. In fact, they even put together a short video thanking veterans in all branches of the military for their service.

We invite you to click here to visit our Facebook page to view the video the Atoms in Ms. Bloss' class created. In addition, Syracuse Academy of Science Charter Schools would like to thank all those who have served in all branches of the military, and for those who continue to serve. We wish you a very happy Veterans Day!

A Zoo-per Day at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo

Syracuse Academy of Science 6th grade students learned about Asian Elephants during their field trip to the Rosamond Gifford Zoo.

Friday, October 22nd, 2021On a brisk fall day, the 6th grade Atoms at Syracuse Academy of Science middle school embarked on an urban safari field trip to the Rosamond Gifford Zoo.

During their visit, Atoms had an opportunity to see all creatures great and small. Students saw Rosamond Gifford Zoo’s newest animal Bjorn the Andean Bear, a family of Asian Elephants, Amur Tigers Zeya and Thimbu, Bactrian Camels Patrick and George, a variety of monkeys and of course the Humboldt Penguins. No zoo visit is ever complete without a group picture pretending to be penguins.

The Festival of Lights and a Day of Delights

Students in Ms. Bloss’ class learn about the history of India’s largest holiday, Diwali the Festival of Lights, and celebrate by creating their own Rangoli for their homes.

Thursday, November 4th, 2021It’s the Festival of Lights and a day full of delights for the Syracuse Academy of Science elementary school Atoms in Ms. Bloss’ class. On Thursday, November 4th, India celebrated its largest holiday of the year, Diwali or Dipawali.

Diwali is also commonly known as the Festival of Lights, as it gets its name from the row of clay lamps that are left outside of homes to symbolize the inner light that protects from spiritual darkness.

To celebrate, students listened to a story about Diwali, and flexed their creativity muscles making their own Rangoli. For those not familiar with Rangoli, it is an art of decoration drawn on the floor or the entrances of homes with sands of many colors, that is thought to bring good luck, prosperity in the house and in the family, and to welcome guests.

CNY Bridges: Build ‘Em & Bust ‘Em Competition

Syracuse Academy of Science high school students competed and received 1st, 3rd and 4th place in the annual STEM Engineering competition, CNY Bridges: Build ‘Em and Bust ‘Em Competition.

Saturday, November 6th, 2021Can they build it? Yes they can! On Saturday, November 6th Syracuse Academy of Science elementary, middle and high school students competed in the annual CNY Bridges: Build ‘Em & Bust ‘Em competition held at the MOST.

This student STEM competition in balsawood bridge engineering allows for participants to compete individually or as a team. For the competition, students are tasked with designing and constructing a truss bridge built entirely of glue and balsawood. On the day of the competition, participants submit their bridge for a test of its efficiency rating, a measure of how many times its own weight the bridge can support before structural failure. Awards are given in three categories: Category I (grades 4-6), Category II (grades 7-8) and Category III (grades 9-12).

We are pleased to announce that Syracuse Academy of Science high school received multiple awards in the CNY Bridges: Build ‘Em & Bust ‘Em competition! Congratulations to the following students.

  • First Place (Category III): Andre McClain - The Positive Protons
  • Third Place (Category III): Theodore Simon and Migual Mathis - Borthorn Bridge
