Dignity for All Students Act (DASA) Reporting and Follow-up Procedure

DASA was established to protect all students from harassment, bullying and discrimination.  It became effective on July 1, 2012 and was amended to include cyberbullying effective July 1, 2013. All forms of Intimidation, Harassment, Bullying or Cyberbullying are unacceptable and, to the extent that such actions are disruptive of the educational process of the School District, offenders shall be subject to appropriate staff interventions, which may result in administrative discipline.

  1. DASA Incident Reporting
    1. SASCS employs a team approach to collect  information, investigate the incidents, and develop action plans to prevent or stop intimidation, harassment, bullying or cyberbullying.  
    2. All staff must report any incident that can be considered as intimidation, harassment, bullying or cyberbullying. to the DASA coordinator or the Dean of Students.
    3. Parents or students can contact the school administrator, Dignity Act Coordinator, counselor, or other staff member (whoever you are most comfortable with) to report an incident, or for information or assistance at any time.
  2. Procedures to follow upon receiving of a DASA incident report:
    1. Collect evidences
      1. Students Statements
      2. Adult Statements
      3. Artifacts
      4. Interviews
      5. Etc.
    2. Determine whether it is material or non-material incident
    3. Develop a corrective and preventive action plan for material incidents
    4. Share the action plan with all stakeholders
    5. Monitor the implementation of the action plan
    6. Report the incidents to the administrators
  3. Reporting Structure and Team Approach to Investigate and Develop Action Plan
    1. Harassment or Intimidation” for the purposes of this policy means any written (including computer messages), verbal or physical act characteristic, that takes place on school property, at a school sponsored event or on a bus that:
      1. Is motivated by an actual or perceived characteristic, such as race, weight, color, religious practice, religion, ancestry, national origin, Native American ancestry/ethnicity, sex, gender, identity, sexual orientation, and expression, or a mental, physical or sensory handicap; or
      2. By any other distinguishing characteristic; or
      3. A reasonable person should know, under the circumstances, that the act(s) will have the effect of harming a student or damaging the student’s property, or placing the student in reasonable fear of harm to his person or damage to property, or
      4. Has the effect of insulting or demeaning any student or group of students in such a way as to cause substantial disruption in, or substantial interference with, the orderly operation of the school.
    2. Bullying shall mean unwelcome verbal, written or physical conduct directed at a student or staff member by another student or staff member.
    3. Cyberbullying is bullying that includes, but is not limited to, the following misuses of technology; harassing, teasing, intimidating, threatening or terrorizing another student or staff member by way of any technological tool, such as sending, texting or distributing inappropriate or derogatory email messages, instant messages, digital pictures or images, or website postings (including blogs) which has the effect of:
      1. Physically, emotionally or mentally harming a student.
      2. Damaging, extorting or taking a student’s personal property.
      3. Placing a student in reasonable fear of physical, emotional or mental harm.
      4. Placing a student in reasonable fear of damage to or loss of personal property; or
      5. Creating an intimidating or hostile environment that substantially interferes with a student’s educational opportunities.
