When Life Imitates Art

Monday, June 1, 2020—The Syracuse Academy of Science Middle School has been busy traveling the world...virtually! The students took a virtual field trip to the Musée d'Orsay museum in Paris, France. It houses the largest collection of impressionist and post-impressionist masterpieces in the world! They were asked to replicate an artwork and the results were amazing. Head over to our Facebook to view the full gallery.

Snappy The Turtle

Tuesday, June 2, 2020—Over the last few months, you may have heard from countless sources that we all need to practice self-control as well as adopt healthier hygiene habits to slow the spread of COVID-19. With this in mind, we’d like to introduce you to Snappy - the turtle who is taking over Instagram one coping strategy at a time!

We invite all of our families to participate in this county-wide mental health initiative. Together, we can continue to slow the spread of COVID-19 - one day at a time.
Here’s how to participate:
Step 1: Listen to the 4-minute Snappy story here http://www.wisdomthinkers.org/snappy/
Step 2: Draw and color Snappy by either following Ms. A-B’s instructional video or by using the step-by-step instructions on pg. 3.
Step 3: Think about a strategy or healthy practice you can do to slow the spread COVID-19 and/or to help you practice self-control during a challenging (or frustrating!) moment.
Step 4: Take a picture of you and Snappy practicing those new habits or strategies, e.g. washing your hands, wearing a mask, counting to 3, etc. (See pg. 4 for examples.)
Step 5: Send the picture to your teacher on Classroom Dojo and/or upload the picture to social media with the hashtags: #snappytoslowthespread @wisdomthinkers #americaworkstogether #SANYAtoms @syracuseacademy
Step 6: Create a poster of Snappy and enter the Snappy contest for your chance to win prizes.

In addition, we’d like to encourage students to Include Snappy in their SAS ABC Countdown to Summer photos.
