Fun Times were had at the Welcome Back BBQ

Games, raffles, and fun for the whole family to enjoy at the SASCS High School’s Welcome Back BBQ

Thursday, September 12, 2019—A live band cranked up the jams at this year's Welcome Back BBQ. Atoms and their families enjoyed an evening filled with festivities, games, raffles and more. Needless to say this event was a huge hit and wouldn't have been possible without the help of many faculty and staff members. Thank you, as well, to all the families who were able to attend. Also, a special shout out and thanks to Frank Stepanek and the band for providing some wonderful tunes throughout the evening. Just a 'Heads Up' You are About to Start Laughing

Atoms make an appearance on Ellen DeGeneres' EllenTube playing the Heads Up Challenge

Wednesday, July 31, 2019—Ellen DeGeneres' game Heads Up is the game of the game of the summer and a favorite amongst Atoms. On the last day of school, 6th grade Project Based Learning students partook in the challenge and submitted their video to Ellen … and they won! Atoms make an appearance on EllenTube and are thrilled to be selected. Thank you, Ellen, and way to go Atoms!

First Grade Atoms 'Studied Abroad' in Turkey

First grade Atoms learned about the country Turkey, created arts and crafts projects and learned to write their name in Arabic

Friday, July 19, 2019—Atoms have some summer fun as they learn about countries from around the world. After reading a story about the country Turkey, students use their imagination as they gear up for a 'trip abroad.' Atoms learned about mosques and how they are a place of Muslim worship. No trip is ever complete without an arts and crafts project. Students used paint, paper bowls, and Popsicle sticks to create their own mosques, and they also learned how to write their name in Arabic. A trip around the world in one afternoon.

Atoms Take Home the Gold at Genius Olympiad

Atoms take home the gold at the 2019 Genius Olympiad competition in the field of Robotics

Tuesday, July 9, 2019—A 'New Wave' of Atoms (or should we say Geniuses) step out onto the field late June for a Robotics competition at Genius Olympiad. No Stranger to this stage, Atoms Ben, Joe and Umesh competed against top talent from all over the world for a chance to win the grand prize, a gold medal. For this year's tournament, the mission had two parts: autonomous and driven. Atoms share their story about Genius Olympiad with News Channel 9. Great job Atoms, we are proud of you and for demonstrating excellence in robotics on the international stage.

Thursday, June 20, 2019—Syracuse Academy of Science Charter School celebrated its thirteenth annual commencement at the SRC Arena at Onondaga Community College. The keynote speaker was Judge Jawwaad Rasheed, board member of the Science Academies of New York. Congratulations to the Class of 2019! We wish you the best in your future endeavors. Atoms Received a Novel Gift on the Last Day of School

On the last day of school, Atoms received a tote bag filled with books to enjoy during the summer

Tuesday, June 25, 2019—As the school year came to a close, Atoms had one thing on their mind, summer vacation. As an end of year treat, one teacher got creative as a way to say thank you for a great year and to wish the students a safe and happy summer. On the last day of school, Atoms received a tote bag filled with books to enjoy during the summer months. These books will help the students keep their mind sharp, and they can dive into a literary adventure. What a creative idea!

Atoms Compete in Create-A-Thon Competition

Atoms compete in the New York State Education Department and NYSCATE's Create-A-Thon competition

Wednesday, June 19, 2019—When creativity and technology mix in a competition it is a recipe for success for Atoms. 6th and 7th grade Atoms compete in the New York State Education Department and NYSCATE's Create-A-Thon: Creative Solutions for Equity and Access competition. Students brainstormed and pitched their ideas to a panel of judges on how to improve access and equity in education for all students: those affected by economic, ability, racial or gender disparities. Atoms received the honorable mention award for their hard work and creativity.

Friday, June 21, 2019—Students, teachers, families and friends gather together to join in on this once in a lifetime celebration for the Class of 2031, Kindergarten Graduation. This triumphant occasion was filled with laughter, cheers, tears and of course excitement as these young Atoms experience their first of many academic milestones. We wish the students great success in first grade and beyond!

6th Grade Atom Won Juneteenth Essay Writing Contest

6th grade student, Preston, won the 2019 Juneteenth essay writing contest

Wednesday, June 19, 2019—Syracuse, New York is home to one of the largest Juneteenth celebrations in the nation. A yearly festival held in downtown Syracuse, communities from the surrounding area partake in the celebration. This year during the Juneteenth festival, our very own 6th grade Atom won the essay writing contest. What's more, Preston, read his essay to the city officials in front of City Hall. In attendance was Syracuse Mayor, Ben Walsh. Congratulations, Preston!
