Fourth Grade Atoms Help Clean Up Our Community

Atoms make a positive impact on our community by volunteering to pick up litter while en route to their field trip to Webster Duck Pond

Friday, June 7, 2019—Atoms rolled up their sleeves, put on gloves, grabbed some tongs and started picking up litter in our community, while en route to their field trip at Webster Duck Pond. A hidden gem in Syracuse, students enjoyed feeding the ducks and taking in the beautiful scenery. To reward Atoms for such positive behavior and good citizenship, they walked to Arctic Island for some delicious desserts. Great job Atoms on making a positive impact on our community.

Atoms visit Hobart and William Smith Colleges

SASCS Atoms visit and tour Hobart and William Smith Colleges, as part of our spring college tour circuit

Thursday, May 30, 2019—Visiting colleges and universities is a key element in our college-bound environment. Each spring, Atoms embark on a college tour circuit visiting colleges and universities in the area. Wrapping up this year's college tour, Atoms visited Hobart and William Smith Colleges. Students received a tour of the campus and learned about the academic and educational resources available, as well as, various campus life programs.

Atoms share their Creative Writing in a Poetry Slam

Atoms in grades Kindergarten through 4th grade share their creative writing skills at a poetry slam

Thursday, June 13, 2019—Atoms are poets and they didn't even know it! Stepping outside their comfort zone, these young poets stepped up to the microphone and presented their creative writing to not only their teachers but their parents, and peers, as well. Poems included styles such as haikus, cinquains, acrostic poems and many different uses of figurative language. Great job Atoms!

SASCS Middle School Choir Sing National Anthem

SASCS middle school choir performs the National Anthem at the Syracuse Mets game on June 3rd

Monday, June 3, 2019—SASCS middle school choir have a 'homerun' of an experience on a beautiful sunny day at NBT Bank Stadium. Atoms head out on the field, right in front of home plate, and sang the National Anthem at the Syracuse Mets game. In between innings, Atoms were able to compete in on-field activities for a chance to win prizes. One student was fortunate enough to even catch a foul ball. Thank you, Syracuse Mets for such a memorable event!

Atom's School Dance Raises Funds for PBL Classes

Thursday, May 30, 2019—In efforts to raise funds for Project Based Learning Classes, Atoms host their middle school dance. A great way for students to unwind, relax and have fun, as we get ready to complete another successful year. And what dance isn't complete without an epic 'Dance Battle.'

Recognized for their hard work in the STEM field, both Benjamin and Joseph were nominated for the Partners for Education and Business (an affiliate of MACNY)'s Student of the Year award. Congratulations to you both!

Atoms Welcome Guest Speakers for Girls Empowerment Night

Atoms welcome guest speakers to sit on a panel at Girls Empowerment Night - a time honored middle school tradition focusing on developing strong, independent, confident young ladies at Syracuse Acadmeyof Science Charter School

Friday, May 17, 2019—Girls Empowerment Night is a time honored middle school tradition which focuses on developing strong, independent, confident young ladies at Syracuse Academy of Science Charter School. The theme for 2019 was strong, independent women in fields that have been thought of as 'male dominated' professions. Atoms welcomed four guest speakers to sit on a panel and discuss how strength, encouragement, determination and value are key components in being a successful female in any career. Guest speakers included: Spectrum News Meteorologist Vanessa Richards, United States Air Force Takeya Williams, CPS and Government Case worker Heather Douglass, and School Resource Officer and Detective Tina Black. Following the discussion Atoms enjoyed an evening of jewelry making, dance battles, open gym and a movie room.

Friday, June 14, 2019—As our seniors get ready for their infamous walk across the stage to receive their diplomas we take a look and 'flashback' to last year's graduating class. Wednesday, May 29, 2019—Taking classroom curriculum and blending it with a hands on experience is just one way we continue to build success, one Atom at a time. The 5th grade Atoms visit Skä•noñh - Great Law of Peace Center for a social studies field trip. Students were able to learn about the history and culture of the native peoples of Central New York. In addition, Atoms were able to see artifacts, hear stories, watch videos and more!

Musical Classics performed at Atom's Spring Concert

SASCS Atoms spring concert and art show. This year's theme was American Musical Theater.

Thursday, June 6, 2019—The gym was filled with the sound of music ranging from vocal to instrumental, as Atoms celebrated a night of the fine arts. A favorite event amongst families, the spring concert and art show highlight art related events the Atoms have been working on throughout the year. This year's theme was the American Musical Theater, and it included compilations of many recognizable pieces. The concert finale was a tune from a musical classic, 'So Long, Farewell,' from Roger and Hammerstein's The Sound of Music. Our young and talented Atoms performed this number in both German and French. Following the performances families walked through rows of student artwork, posed in the photo booth, created a picture on the large mural and also wrote fan letters. Thank you to all who helped make this such a special night.
