Tuesday, June 9, 2020—"Given everything that is going on in society today, how are you feeling?" This powerful prompt was given by the #SASCS Middle School ELA teachers, and seventh grader Zy'Kerra rose to the occasion. Her response to the assignment is an original rap, and we think you should hear it. We applaud Zy'Kerra , and all the members of our community, for taking a stand. Let us unite to build a better future based on peace, justice, and equality for all. #BlackLivesMatter

Snappy The Turtle

Tuesday, June 2, 2020—Over the last few months, you may have heard from countless sources that we all need to practice self-control as well as adopt healthier hygiene habits to slow the spread of COVID-19. With this in mind, we’d like to introduce you to Snappy - the turtle who is taking over Instagram one coping strategy at a time!

We invite all of our families to participate in this county-wide mental health initiative. Together, we can continue to slow the spread of COVID-19 - one day at a time.
Here’s how to participate:
Step 1: Listen to the 4-minute Snappy story here http://www.wisdomthinkers.org/snappy/
Step 2: Draw and color Snappy by either following Ms. A-B’s instructional video or by using the step-by-step instructions on pg. 3.
Step 3: Think about a strategy or healthy practice you can do to slow the spread COVID-19 and/or to help you practice self-control during a challenging (or frustrating!) moment.
Step 4: Take a picture of you and Snappy practicing those new habits or strategies, e.g. washing your hands, wearing a mask, counting to 3, etc. (See pg. 4 for examples.)
Step 5: Send the picture to your teacher on Classroom Dojo and/or upload the picture to social media with the hashtags: #snappytoslowthespread @wisdomthinkers #americaworkstogether #SANYAtoms @syracuseacademy
Step 6: Create a poster of Snappy and enter the Snappy contest for your chance to win prizes.

In addition, we’d like to encourage students to Include Snappy in their SAS ABC Countdown to Summer photos.
