Monday, March 2, 2020—The #SASCS choir visited Syracuse University. We went to an admissions session, took a campus tour, ate lunch in a dining hall, and attended a rehearsal of the Syracuse University Singers Choir in the School of Music. Students spent the day experiencing college-life and music in college!
Thursday, March 5, 2020—Here at the elementary school, art is created, celebrated and shared. We began sharing out student artwork with families through Artsonia at the beginning of the school year and are proud to continue to use this tool. Each month a newsletter is sent through email, sharing the artful news of the month and upcoming events related to art. Along with the newsletter, each project students create is uploaded to their personalized portfolio. If you have activated parental access, you can see your student's artwork. If not, please see the artsonia login information on your dojo account.
Friday, February 28, 2020—A cornerstone of the #SASCS foundation is our commitment to promoting scientific literacy. Scholars at the Middle School recently presented their annual science fair projects to judges from around the community, including SANY Alumni. Way to go, Atoms!
Friday, February 28, 2020—It's #ReadAcrossAmerica week! The middle school kicked off the celebrations last Friday by celebrating Dr. Seuss’ (belated) birthday! Students rotated between three different stations related to the books Horton Hatches the Egg, The Cat in the Hat, Oh the Places You’ll Go and The Lorax. The stations included reading and writing activities, STEM activities, and a video with activities about The Lorax. We would like to leave you with one of our favorite quotes that embodies what we hope for our students as they go into the world, “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.” - The Lorax.
Friday, February 28, 2020—Scholars from 8th and 9th grade attended a presentation by Jerome Walker from 100 Black Men Of America, Inc.. His presentation uncovered truths regarding Black History Month and why it's celebrated in the month of February. During the 90-minute presentation, students analyzed historical documents to learn about the origins of slavery in the United States, and they identified important contributions many Africans have made over the years. Students were encouraged to dive deep into their culture, talk with their families about it, and research the subject further to continue uncovering more truths. #BlackHistoryMonth
Thursday, February 27, 2020 & Wednesday, March 4, 2020—First and Second-grade Atoms raced, competed, laughed and learned during their respective field trips to Ultimate Goal. Students participated in many team-oriented games and activities, with a focus on working together, physical activity and FUN! Our Atoms burned off some winter blues, and they thank the staff at Ultimate Goal for yet another fantastic trip.
Friday, February 28, 2020—In celebration of Black History Month, first graders spent time with News Channel 9 anchor Jennifer Sanders! She spent some time with us explaining that she doesn't only share news on TV, but she also plays many roles behind the scenes. Before leaving, she invited the students to repeat some positive, powerful messages about how great they are and that they can achieve any dream they have with lots of hard work and determination.
