Musical Classics performed at Atom's Spring Concert

SASCS Atoms spring concert and art show. This year's theme was American Musical Theater.

Thursday, June 6, 2019—The gym was filled with the sound of music ranging from vocal to instrumental, as Atoms celebrated a night of the fine arts. A favorite event amongst families, the spring concert and art show highlight art related events the Atoms have been working on throughout the year. This year's theme was the American Musical Theater, and it included compilations of many recognizable pieces. The concert finale was a tune from a musical classic, 'So Long, Farewell,' from Roger and Hammerstein's The Sound of Music. Our young and talented Atoms performed this number in both German and French. Following the performances families walked through rows of student artwork, posed in the photo booth, created a picture on the large mural and also wrote fan letters. Thank you to all who helped make this such a special night.

Wednesday, June 5, 2019—What a gorgeous day not only for a field trip, but for baseball and 'Education Day,' as well. The 4th grade Atoms visit Onondaga County Park's NBT Bank Stadium, the home of the Syracuse Mets, for an afternoon filled with popcorn, hot dogs and of course baseball. The Atoms had a 'homerun' of a good time. From singing along to Take Me Out to The Ball Game, to trying to catch a baseball or t-shirt, this field trip was one that will certainly go down in the record books as a win. Thank you, Syracuse Mets for such a memorable event!

Guest Speaker Teaches Atoms about Preparedness

Guest speaker John Hutchinson, TLC EMT, teaches Atoms about disaster preparedness

Thursday, May 23, 2019—You can never be too prepared especially when an extreme disaster occurs. Fifth grade Atoms researched projects on extreme disasters that can occur in New York state, such as snow storms, flooding, tornados, just to name a few. John Hutchinson, a local TLC EMT, visited the classroom to speak about disaster preparedness with the students. When it comes to any type of disaster it is important to come up with a plan. From having an emergency kit, to how to leave a house in an emergency, to important items you might want in you car, all valuable information so our Atoms can be prepared for whenever a disaster might strike.

Sweet treats and a surprise visit for SASCS Atoms

Syracuse University's Otto the Orange visits Atoms during college week and ice cream social

Friday, May 17, 2019—I scream. You scream. Atoms scream for … ice scream! It was a great pleasure to reward over 200 Atoms for their positive behavior and DOJO points. To celebrate, they had a choice of an ice cream cone, ice cream sandwich, or an ice cream bar. To add an extra bit of sweetness (or should we say citrus) to this already tasty treat, Atoms received a special surprise visit from Syracuse University's Otto the Orange. During this week, Atoms also partook in 'College Week'. Keep up the great work Atoms!
