7th Graders Turn Parking Lot into Thought-Provoking Artwork

Syracuse Academy of Science 7th Grade Chalk Project

Thursday, June 15th, 2023: Syracuse Academy of Science 7th graders headed outside to create chalk drawings that depicted integral scenes and quotations from the novel Refugee by Alan Gratz. Each team chose one of three main characters and came up with an important scene and a quotation related to that scene that was vital to the development of the novel's central theme. Each team had to prepare a sketch plan and then execute their ideas to fill an entire parking space.

Atoms covered 18 parking spaces in our lot with beautiful, thought-provoking artwork!

Senior Spotlight: Taha Hayali

Syracuse Academy of Science Senior Spotlight: Meet Taha Hayali

Thursday, July 13th, 2023: It’s Senior Spotlight time!

Meet Taha Hayali. Taha was the first student in Syracuse Academy of Science history to graduate with both a high school degree and an associate's degree from Onondaga Community College! Let’s find out how the rest of his high school experience went.

What is one major accomplishment you had in your senior year of high school? Getting my associate's degree in computer science.

What are your goals for after high school? Studying computer science at a good college and having some fun doing it.

Name one person that inspires you. My father.

What advice would you give to the next senior class? Aim to be the best and work to be the best so that even if you fail, you can say that you did everything in your power, and it just didn't work out.

Where do you see yourself in five years? Graduating college and getting a good job.

If you could have dinner with any person living or dead, who would they be and why? Khalid ibn Walid, because he is the commander who never lost a single battle.

Name three traits that describe you. Confident, determined, humble.

What is your favorite hobby? Sports.

What is a hidden talent that no one or only a few people know about you? I started learning grappling. I'm pretty good at that, but I still need to improve.

What is your favorite memory of SAS? Math class with Mr.Bektas as we would have lots of fun with friends and mess around with people but still learn in a fun way.
