Tuesday, January 23rd, 2024: Spring came early at Syracuse Academy of Science Elementary School! In Ms. Heilig's ELL (English Language Learners) group, students cut out and made paper daffodils and then labeled the parts to practice spelling words.
Sunday, January 21st, 2024: The Syracuse Academy of Science Robotics team has done it again! The scholars attended the FTC MVCC Qualifier tournament with two teams, New Wave and SAS ATOMS.
We are delighted to announce New Wave was honored with the Best Design award and second place in the Connect award, while SAS ATOMS secured the Inspire award, the highest honor at the tournament. This is the first time the robotics club has achieved the Inspire Award in 10 years! This incredible achievement has earned the SAS ATOMS a well-deserved spot in the upcoming regional championship. Also, two outstanding robotics members, Samara and Mickayla, have been nominated for the Dean's List Award at the FTC tournament.
Please join us in congratulating the robotics club for this remarkable accomplishment. What a dedicated and talented team!!
Thursday, January 18th, 2024: Syracuse Academy of Science third grade Atoms struck a pose at Green Lakes Lanes in Fayetteville. Bowling is full of math problems, from calculating your total score to figuring out the correct angles to throw the ball at to knock down the most pins. 3rd graders also worked on Social Emotional skills like good sportsmanship.
We hope Green Lakes Lanes enjoyed having us as much as we enjoyed being there.
Friday, January 12th, 2024: Syracuse Academy of Science second graders visited the Children's Museum of Oswego. This field trip had everything from a giant water table, to a huge climber, and all the science and play stations you could imagine in between. Atoms had a blast getting out of the classroom for hands-on STEM fun!
Wednesday, January 17th, 2024: NYSATA asked for student help in designing the flag for the 2024 Youth Art Month! Winners were chosen from schools all over New York.
Ms. AB at Syracuse Academy of Science Elementary submitted student designs and one of our 4th graders received an Honorable Mention! Way to go!!
Friday, January 12th, 2024: Mrs. Tracy's third-grade class and Ms. Negron's Kindergarten class got together for some reading fun! The third graders were each given a Kindergarten buddy to read to. This is a great way to help our scholars practice their reading fluency and a way to build a sense of community in our building!
Wednesday, January 3rd, 2023: Local artist Jaleel Campbell visited Mrs. Merrithew's Senior Craft class. Jaleel was kind enough to offer help with the students' crocheted pieces they have been working on in class. Plus, he talked about the therapeutic benefits of crocheting. Jaleel also told Atoms about his crochet club in Syracuse called "Off the Hook."
Guest speakers always add to our student’s educational experience. Thank you for your time, Jaleel!
Wednesday, December 20th, 2023: Before the winter break, the Syracuse Academy of Science High School Atomic Achievers Club collaborated with Congressional Award students and set up a festive afternoon of cookie decorating!
Thursday, December 21st, 2023: Throughout the month of December, Syracuse Academy of Science Elementary Atoms learned about the character traits, Caring and Compassion. Caring is showing kindness and concern for others. Compassion is showing/having that concern for the misfortunes or sufferings of others.
On December 21st, we celebrated the Atoms that best exemplified those traits. Congratulations to our December Students of the Month!
