SANY Superintendent Dr. Hayali's statement
Dear Syracuse Academy of Science parents, students, faculty, and staff,
An unfortunate incident occurred during the Syracuse Academy of Science high school basketball game. The connotations expressed by fans do not represent the students and staff's culture, attitudes, or feelings at Syracuse Academy of Science Charter Schools, nor those of SANY.
Despite the tension in the building, words cannot describe how proud I am of our students, families, and fans who came to support the Atoms. Our display of professionalism will always rise above any and all negativity that can be found on and off the court. Under these challenging playing conditions, our students proved that good will always prevail. The Atoms secured a victory and will be moving on to the Sectional Semifinals on Friday, February 25th, at SRC Arena. We invite you to please come out and support our students!
As our student-athletes continue to excel in their sports, I want to share a friendly reminder that our opponents' behavior at the boys' basketball game will not be tolerated at any SANY school-sanctioned sporting events. We hold our students, families, and fans to a high degree of respect and professionalism. As hosts, we want to ensure that our opponents feel comfortable in our stadiums, gymnasiums, and arenas when competing against the Atoms. We hope that our opponents will follow the same level of respect and courtesy.
At SANY, we will always pride ourselves in creating positive and supportive cultures and environments built upon the actions of students, teachers, faculty, and staff. As a district, we recognize and celebrate the diversity of our student population, our teachers, faculty, and staff daily.
Sincerely,
Dr. Tolga Hayali
Superintendent
