Dear SAS Parents and Guardians,
We want to take a moment to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all of you who braved the cold today to support your children’s school during our Board meeting . There were many of you this evening, your presence and unwavering dedication mean so much—not only to us but to our entire team of educators and staff who work tirelessly to provide the best for our students.
Your willingness to stand by our school and advocate for the truth is genuinely invaluable. Your support reinforces the strong community we have built together—one centered on commitment, passion, and the shared goal of providing a high-quality education for all our children.
We know that some parents may still have concerns, and we want to assure you that we hear you and take your concerns very seriously. First and foremost, at no point was there any danger to our students or staff. After a thorough inspection of the facility, the City Fire Department determined that the issue stemmed from a standalone device emitting a fault signal. In the cafeteria and kitchen area, there are additional detection units, none of which detected any issues or triggered an alarm.
To prevent any recurrence, we are reinforcing our safety protocols with all of the third-party contractors to ensure strict adherence moving forward. Our top priority remains the safety and well-being of our students and staff, and we are committed to maintaining a secure environment for all stakeholders.
The safety and well-being of our students remain our highest priority, and we are committed to taking all necessary steps to ensure a secure and supportive learning environment.
On behalf of our Board of Trustees and our entire leadership team, we want to express our most profound appreciation. We remain steadfast in our mission to do everything in our power to ensure our students receive the best education in a safe, supportive, and positive learning environment.
Thank you for being such an integral part of our school community. Your support and involvement inspire us every day.
With gratitude,
SAS Administration
Dear SAS High School Community,
We wish to provide an update regarding the fault signal that occurred in a smoke and carbon monoxide detector at our high school campus after school hours on February 4th, 2025.
First and foremost, we are pleased to report that there was no danger to our students or staff at any time. After a thorough inspection of the facility, the City Fire Department determined that the standalone device was emitting a fault signal. In the cafeteria and kitchen area, there are additional detection units, which did not detect any issue or sound an alarm.
When the unit began emitting a fault signal, a third-party food service contractor took down the device without the knowledge of SAS officials. This action was contrary to earlier directives that SAS had provided the contractor. When SAS administrators learned of the issue and the contractor’s actions, they immediately notified the Fire Department. The Fire Department responded immediately and thoroughly inspected the facility to ensure safety. However, on February 5th, a code violation was issued to SAS because of the actions of the third-party kitchen food service contractor.
We are reemphasizing our safety protocols with the contractor to ensure such an action does not happen again. Our priority is to maintain a secure environment for all students and staff, and we are committed to the safety of all stakeholders.
We appreciate the prompt response of the City’s Fire Department to our immediate call and its assistance in ensuring our facility's safety. We also wish to acknowledge the prompt action of our staff, who immediately complied with the protocols agreed upon by SAS and the City.
Thank you for your continued trust and support.
Sincerely,
SAS High School Administration
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We would like to inform you about a false fire alarm that occurred at our school today at approximately 3:10 PM at the SAS High School building. The alarm was triggered in the kitchen area, prompting immediate action as per our safety protocols.
We promptly notified the fire department, who arrived swiftly at our school to assess the situation. Upon thorough inspection, it was determined that there was no real fire threat. No smoke or carbon monoxide was detected, and the alarm was confirmed to be false.
As a precaution, all students participating in the after-school and tutoring programs were safely evacuated to the conference center next to the high school building. Our staff ensured that every student was accounted for and remained safe throughout the process.
We are pleased to confirm that our students and staff were not in danger at any time. Since the fire department cleared the building, students attending the after-school and tutoring programs will be dismissed from the high school today.
We appreciate the calm and orderly manner in which our students responded to the drill, and we commend our staff for their professionalism and swift response. Your children’s safety is our foremost priority, and we are committed to maintaining a secure environment for all.
Thank you for your understanding and support. If you have any questions or need further clarification, please feel free to contact us.
Sincerely,
SAS High School Administration
