Syracuse Academy of Science (SAS) is pleased to announce it will host the 2nd Annual Jazz Festival fundraiser, a night of dinner and jazz featuring renowned bassist Gerald Veasley, on October 26th, 2017 at SAS Middle School on West High Terrace. Proceeds from the 2nd Annual Jazz Festival will help fund our school’s science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) programs, plus our Robotics Clubs and college field trips.

Who is Gerald Veasley?
Gerald Veasley’s musical odyssey has taken him to the top of the contemporary music world as a bassist, bandleader, composer, producer and educator. He has recorded and/or performed with many of the world’s top performers in many genres of music such as: Chuck Loeb, Maysa, Kim Waters, Nick Colionne, Special EFX, Pieces of a Dream, McCoy Tyner, Gerald Levert, Teddy Pendergrass, Nnenna Freelon, Philip Bailey, the Dixie Hummingbirds, John Blake, Phil Perry, Will Downing and Pat Martino. His performance as a bassist has been top shelf, as his memorable work with the late, great Grover Washington Jr., Joe Zawinul, and the Jaco Pastorius Big Band attests.

In support of our mission and key design elements, we are hosting a parent orientation for all parents/guardians, returning and new. As parents as partners, we ask a parent/guardian from each family to attend the orientation for your child’s assigned class section. If you have more than one student at Syracuse Academy of Science, please try to attend one informational session at separate buildings. During this session, we will discuss pertinent information, such as: health, student handbook, parking, drop off/pick up, attendance, and academic standards. Please be advised, some information is updated from year to year.

The New York State Department of Health has issued new immunization regulations for the 2017-18 school year.
Parents, please note that all students must have proper immunizations to begin the school year. If your child has not received the immunizations or required doses listed below, please call your child’s doctor to make an appointment as soon as possible.
If you do not have insurance or you have Medicaid, the Onondaga County Immunization Clinic will continue to be available from 9:00 am to 12 noon every Wednesday morning to give immunizations. It is located in the John H. Mulroy Civic Center (421 Montgomery Street, basement level, Room 30). Please bring your child’s immunization record with you.
