Tuesday, May 21st, 2024: Congratulations to Syracuse Academy of Science senior Migual Mathis! Migual earned a table to present his research, "Computational Analysis of Apigenin as a Protein-Based Therapeutic Targeting MUCIN-1," at the 2024 Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in Los Angeles, California.
Migual was selected from the MOST's CNY Science & Engineering Fair to share his research at the May 11 - May 17 event, the world's largest high school STEM competition. The event included university judges, engineers and scientists, private and federal research center representatives, and post-doctoral fellows. In addition, Migual had the opportunity to present his research to the public and other honorees at the science fair.
ISEF hosted events for participants throughout the week, including a college fair, pin exchange, and opening and closing ceremonies. A highlight of the trip was that Migual was selected to livestream a question to aerospace engineer and NASA astronaut Dr. Janette Epps while she was at the International Space Station.

To celebrate this achievement, Senator May was invited to present a certificate to each student. During her visit, Senator May also spoke with the 4th graders about the role and responsibilities of a Senator.
We are incredibly proud of our students and grateful for Senator May's visit!
Saturday, May 4th, 2024: Syracuse Academy of Science Elementary School's Atoms Adventure Club recently went to Pratt's Falls! During this visit, the group hiked along a creek that led to the waterfall. While hiking, Atoms identified salamanders, bugs, fish, and a massive bullfrog!
It was an authentic outdoor experience. Stay tuned for the next adventure!
Saturday, May 11th, 2024: The Syracuse Academy of Science Middle School Steam Club attended their last Future Women in STEM event at the MOST. This week, scholars went through the design process with women from TESSY Plastics. Their task was to design something to keep them dry when going to school in the rain. Local media group WCNY joined us, talking to the girls about STEM and the different speakers they have listened to at The Future Women in STEM events.
Thursday, May 9th, 2024: Regent Patrick Mannion of the NY State Board of Regents visited with Syracuse Academy of Science 3rd graders!
Regent Mannion explained what the Board of Regents does and engaged with our scholars about their dreams and aspirations. He also read a story about presidents and a girl who dreams of being the first female president of the United States!
Thank you to Regent Mannion for visiting us, and we hope to have another visit soon!
