Friday September 30th, 2022: “A library card is a start of a lifelong adventure.” Ms. Fogarty’s second-grade class got the opportunity to explore the nearby library. Students and some parents walked to Betts Branch Library, where they learned about all the materials available at the local library. Students then read several books to one another and enjoyed read-alouds.
Thursday, September 29th, 2022: It's hard to believe it's already October! It feels like the first day of school was just yesterday! Syracuse Academy of Science High School held their Back to School Night for families on Thursday, September, 29th.
At check-in, students received a sign-in sheet to ensure they were introducing their families to their core class and elective teachers. Families and students could walk freely throughout the first floor of the building to visit classrooms and meet grade-level teacher teams. Teachers handed out information about the course, and parents were able to schedule parent-teacher conferences or home visits to discuss their student's progress in more detail.
We hope Back to School night was a positive and helpful experience for all who attended. We're looking forward to the rest of the school year and building success one Atom at a time.
It’s time to shine the spotlight on another outstanding Atom! Allow us to introduce you to Ms. Taylor, administrative assistant at Syracuse Academy of Science Elementary school! Ms. Taylor has worked for Syracuse Academy since 2017. She is a mom, loves fishing, the color green, and hates driving long distances! Ms. Taylor went to Tompkins Cortland Community College and is most inspired by her mom! Ms. Taylor is also a great team player!
We cannot express enough how lucky we are as a school to have Ms. Taylor on our team. We are many atoms, one family.
Friday, September 30th, 2022: Each month Syracuse Academy of Science Elementary School celebrates a character trait and the students and staff members in our building that exhibit the trait every day. The month of September's character trait was Responsibility. Responsibility means being dependable, making good choices, and taking accountability for your actions. A responsible citizen looks out for the well-being of others and understands we all have a part to play in making the world a better place.
Please join us in celebrating Ms. Ansbrow, Ms. Cahalan, and all our students of the month for being Responsible! Way to go, Atoms!
Wednesday, September 28th, 2022: Syracuse Academy of Science Elementary School's 2B Class was supposed to walk to the Library for a field trip. When the rain forced their teachers to cancel, they made the best of it by inviting parents to read to the class! 2B atoms explored the book "The Word Collector" by Peter H. Reynolds. In "The Word Collector," the main character Jerone, uses expressive vocabulary and shares it with the world around him. The children in 2B investigated words and connected them to synonyms to expand their vocabulary, followed by an investigation of keywords from the book. Parent volunteers engaged and supported the expansion of learning with their SANY scholars.
