On Thursday, November 19, 2015, sixth grade students at the Syracuse Academy of Science Middle School took a trip to LeMoyne College. Although, the main focus of the trip was to see the LeMoyne Science Center, the students were treated to the entire college campus. Highlights included the Madden School of Business, the Dolphin Den, the Noreen Reale Falcone Library, and more. Our inquisitive students spent the time asking questions to our great tour guides and continued the practice back at our school. As a school that stresses college acceptance and preparation, it is very important to how our amazing students what secondary education is all about!

On Friday, November 13th, Chef Tom Kiernan came to SAS high school to speak with some of our 12th and 11th grade students as well as the 9th grade. Chef Tom is the Executive Chef for the new Marriott Syracuse Downtown Hotel opening this Spring. He spoke with our students about his career choices and shared his journey to where he is now. Chef Tom even brought us some honey from his beehives and discussed the difference between the 2 jars of honey! Chef Tom shared his words of wisdom with the students, telling them to find something they love doing and to pursue it. The students really enjoyed the visit and we would love to have him back again next year.
On Saturday, November 14th, 2015, 3 teams from the SAS Middle School attended the MOST Build Em & Bust Em bridge building competition. 5 students from 5th grade and 1 student from the 6th grade competed in Section II. This past Friday, November 13th, about a third of the senior class went to RI to visit 2 colleges. The students visited Roger Williams University and Brown University. The group also got to visit 2 of the nicest towns Rhode Island has to offer, Jamestown and Newport. Other being a little chilly, the students had a nice time and we hope visit these schools again next year!
