100 Black Men Lesson for Black History Month

Jerome Walker from 100 Black Men Speaks with Syracuse Academy of Science Students

Friday, February 28, 2020—Scholars from 8th and 9th grade attended a presentation by Jerome Walker from 100 Black Men Of America, Inc.. His presentation uncovered truths regarding Black History Month and why it's celebrated in the month of February. During the 90-minute presentation, students analyzed historical documents to learn about the origins of slavery in the United States, and they identified important contributions many Africans have made over the years. Students were encouraged to dive deep into their culture, talk with their families about it, and research the subject further to continue uncovering more truths. #BlackHistoryMonth

Syracuse Academy of Science Elementary Students Take a Field Trip to the Ultimate Goal

Thursday, February 27, 2020 & Wednesday, March 4, 2020—First and Second-grade Atoms raced, competed, laughed and learned during their respective field trips to Ultimate Goal. Students participated in many team-oriented games and activities, with a focus on working together, physical activity and FUN! Our Atoms burned off some winter blues, and they thank the staff at Ultimate Goal for yet another fantastic trip.

Syracuse Academy of Science Seniors Take a Tour of OCM B.O.C.E.S.

Wednesday, February 26, 2020—A group of SAS Seniors traveled to OCM B.O.C.E.S. for an information session and a tour of the facility led by Adult & Continuing Education Coordinator Matt Tarolli. Students were informed of the various trade programs available on campus, and they were able to get a grasp of a handful of the programs by visiting classrooms and workshops.

Friday, February 28, 2020In celebration of Black History Month, first graders spent time with News Channel 9 anchor Jennifer Sanders! She spent some time with us explaining that she doesn't only share news on TV, but she also plays many roles behind the scenes. Before leaving, she invited the students to repeat some positive, powerful messages about how great they are and that they can achieve any dream they have with lots of hard work and determination.

Robotics Team Wins Big at Qualifying Tournament

Syracuse Academy of Science Robotics Team Competes During the First Tech Challenge Qualifying Tournament.

Saturday, February 29, 2020—The #SASCS High School Robotics Team won big this weekend at the FIRST Tech Challenge Clarkson University Qualifying Tournament.

Recap: Our Atoms won their first F I V E matches of the day. Although they fell short in the final match, our #SASAtoms robotics team achieved the Second Alliance Captain Award and the Best Design Award at the competition. Junior Umesh Dahal was honored for his Dean's List status as well.
