Response to LocalSYR - 1/7/2025
Our night cleaning staff typically begins their shift after student dismissal at around 4 PM. They work approximately five hours, clocking out after completing the cleaning of their designated areas.
We want to assure the public that our building, including the cafeteria, is equipped with CO detectors, and the Syracuse City Fire Department conducts fire safety inspections periodically. The CO detector that students reported making a chirping sound yesterday was located in a separate part of the building. This was due to a low battery, which was replaced. No other alarms were detected from other CO detectors in the building.
Based on the preliminary investigation by the fire and police departments, these two incidents do not appear to be related. The official cause of death will be determined following the results of the autopsy.
The deceased employee had been a valued member of our team for over three years. We will provide further information as it becomes available. We are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all our staff and students.
