Student Centered School Structure

Student Centered School Structure

SASCS is built around the belief that students thrive in schools where they are known, supported, and valued as individuals. By intentionally keeping school environments small and personal, we create a sense of belonging and ensure that every student receives the academic and social support they need to grow.

SASCS schools offer a small, safe, and nurturing environment for students. Each school has an academic leader, called the dean, and a behavior specialist who provides daily support to students. By maintaining a smaller school structure at each location, SASCS cultivates a family-like atmosphere in which staff members know every student well. This structure contributes to a safer and more supportive environment for students and staff.

In the elementary grades, each K–2 classroom has two teachers to ensure individual attention and consistent support. In grades 3–4, Academic Intervention Specialists provide targeted help at each grade level. In middle school, students receive additional support through a dedicated intervention period in Math and ELA, where small group instruction reduces the student-teacher ratio to about 1:13. This allows for focused instruction that meets a variety of learning needs.

The middle school recognizes that students in grades 5–7 benefit from structured and personalized support as they develop academically and socially. To help 5th graders transition into middle school, SASCS provides a dedicated academic period called WIN (What I Need), where students receive extra support in Math, ELA, SEL, or STEM based on their individual needs. In grades 6 and 7, Math and Reading Specialists provide small-group support to help students continue to grow.

Several high school courses are also intentionally structured with smaller class sizes to promote engagement, relationship-building, and individualized feedback. Parent and staff surveys consistently show that the close-knit school environment and individualized attention are among the most valued and defining features of SASCS.
