Glocal Education

SASCS believes that students are shaped by the world they live in and the communities they serve. “Glocal” education means helping students understand the wider world while also developing the responsibility, empathy, and civic mindset to improve their own neighborhoods. Our schools cultivate young people who are globally aware, locally engaged, and ready to lead with compassion and character.

SASCS has a celebratory atmosphere and promotes positive attitudes through monthly and quarterly recognition that honors academic achievement and strong citizenship. Students are celebrated with certificates, gift certificates, and invitations to an annual Dean’s List Dinner for students and their families, reinforcing that academic effort and character both matter.

Students engage in meaningful community service across all grade levels. The school hosts annual donations and canned food drives near the holidays to support families in need. Syracuse Elementary School has established a Community Outreach Committee that coordinates quarterly community drives. Students have collected hygiene products, canned goods for local food banks, and comfort items for patients in nearby hospitals.

Students also give back to the community through hands-on service work. Through the Congressional Awards program, students volunteer their time and skills to support local organizations and meet real community needs. Starting in 8th grade, students may participate and develop in four areas: personal development, community service, physical fitness, and exploration/expedition. To qualify for certificates, students must complete at least 30 volunteer hours beyond what is required for graduation, helping them learn commitment, leadership, and responsibility.
