Sparking Curiosity: SAS 5th Graders Explore Electricity
Thursday, April 10th, 2025: Students in Mrs. Swidowski’s fifth-grade Syracuse Academy of Science class took on an electrifying challenge during their State Investigation Lab! With a table full of wires, batteries, switches, and light bulbs, students were tasked with building functioning circuits—and lighting up those bulbs!
Throughout the lab, students explored how electricity flows through a circuit and investigated what happens when the switch is open versus when it’s closed. Using their growing knowledge of electrical systems, they collaborated, problem-solved, and tested their designs until they were successful.
This hands-on experience brought textbook science to life, encouraging critical thinking and curiosity about how everyday electrical systems work. It was a bright moment—literally and figuratively—for our young scientists!
We’re so proud of their hard work and perseverance. Way to go, 5th grade!
