On Monday, December 19, 2016 a group of our high school students joined the Salvation Army's Christmas Bureau's distribution day. 2,778 families registered to receive gifts and over a thousand volunteered for this event. Many organizations got together and Syracuse Academy students did not miss this opportunity to help serve the Syracuse city. Our students worked to prepare toys and fire-trucks to be distributed to the children to make them happy for Christmas.

On Monday, December 19th, 2016, the SAS Middle School hosted a wonderful guest speaker as a part of our program of culturally infused lessons. Mr. Paco Valle spoke about the Mexican culture and celebrations surrounding the holidays of the year. He detailed the many important holidays of the Mexican culture. Mr. Valle detailed the background of Las Fiestas Del Mexico (The Mexican Celebrations), Mexican Independence Day (September 16th), Dia de los Muertos (November 2nd), Los Dia De Las Reyes (The Day of the Kings or The Epiphany), as well as Christmas and New Years from his cultural perspective. Students finished the session with each pulling a strong on a piñata for a wonderful treat! One of the powerful aspects of our population here at the Syracuse Academy of Science is our diverse population. This program and the amazing guests that we host is our way of celebrating that diversity! Thank you Mr. Valle for bringing your amazing experiences to our school!

There were 143 students at the SAS Elementary School who were a part of the League of Extraordinary Citizens for the month of November! These students earned 100 or more DOJOs in November for excellent behaviors in class. These students had their photo taken and earned a dress down pass! We are so proud of all their hard work! The students who earned the highest amount of DOJOs in each grade level are the grade level superheroes. These students were able to enjoy Donuts with the Dean following the picture.
