Important Notice: Chromebook Safety Alert
Dear SANY Parents and Guardians,
I am reaching out to inform you of a concerning trend circulating on TikTok and other social media platforms that poses significant risks to student and staff safety and school property.
The trend, known as the #ChromebookChallenge or #ChromebookDurabilityTest, encourages students to intentionally insert small metal objects—such as paper clips, pencil leads, metallic wrappers, or pushpins—into Chromebooks' charging ports, USB ports, or internal components. This dangerous act can cause the device to short-circuit, overheat, catch fire, and even explode, which can cause serious injury and substantial damage to the device.
We want to make sure families are aware of the serious consequences of participating in this trend, which may include:
- Physical self-harm.
- Physical harm to other students and staff.
- Damage to school property.
- School disciplinary actions include expulsion, suspensions, and/or fines.
- Possible legal consequences, including charges related to vandalism or arson.
How you can help:
- Please speak with your child about the dangers of this behavior.
- Emphasize the importance of using technology responsibly and with respect for school property.
- Monitor your child’s online activity and encourage open conversations about safe and responsible social media use.
Our top priority is the safety of our students and staff. We are committed to maintaining a safe, supportive, and positive learning environment. We appreciate your attention to this matter and your partnership in keeping our students and staff safe.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact your child's school.
Sincerely,
Dr. Tolga Hayali
Superintendent of SANY Schools
