Congressional Awards Students Spend Memorial Weekend Camping

Syracuse Academy of Science High School Congressional Award Students Visit the Adirondacks

Friday, May 26th, 2023: During Memorial Day weekend, Mr. Stowe and Mr. Yaman took Congressional Award students camping at Lake Durant. The group spent four glorious days in the Adirondacks region hiking Castle Rock Summit and Bald Mountain, visiting Old Forge and Indian Lake, swimming, canoeing, fishing at Lake Durant, and eating like they never had food before!

Congressional Awards are the highest honor youth can receive in the United States. Awards are earned by students who successfully complete four categories: physical fitness, personal development, voluntary public service, and expedition & exploration. This outing was part of the expedition and exploration category. Congressional Award candidates at Syracuse Academy of Science have gone to International festivals, taken weekend camping trips, and even traveled out of the state.
