Wednesday, March 25th, 2026: Syracuse Academy of Science first-grade students welcomed a special guest, meteorologist Kate Thornton from NewsChannel 9, for an engaging and visit that brought their science learning to life.
As part of their recent units on weather, the atmosphere, and outer space, students had the opportunity to deepen their understanding with insights from a real-world expert. Kate shared how weather forms, discussed the tools meteorologists use, and emphasized the importance of weather safety.
One of the highlights of the visit was when students became “mini meteorologists.” They practiced presenting the forecast and telling viewers what the weather would be for the rest of the week. This interactive experience not only reinforced their learning but also helped build communication skills and confidence.
Experiences like this connect classroom lessons to real-world applications, inspiring curiosity and a love of science in our young learners.
