Wednesday, December 14th, 2022: It's beginning to look a lot like snow! Syracuse Academy of Science Kindergarteners must have predicted this snowstorm because they have been working in class to create a background for a penguin! It's also the perfect activity to practice letters and lines. These atoms are learning that drawing snowflakes can be simple! An X and a plus sign combine to make a snowflake. Add the letter V on the end to dress it up!
Thursday, December 8th, 2022: In Mrs. Georgiadis's second-grade intervention groups, students have been working on reading accurately and fluently. Atoms worked hard to practice a play called "Duck Gets Lost." They met their goal through hard work and repeated practice. They even made masks and performed the play! Great job, atoms! The world is your stage!
Monday, December 12th, 2022: Reggie Kelley from Rise Above Poverty came to Syracuse Academy of Science middle school and graciously donated toiletries such as deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, feminine hygiene products, and socks. Rise Above Poverty is a donation-based non-profit organization that helps provide students in Syracuse with necessities.
Thank you for your generous donations to our Atoms and to all the families you have and will continue to help.
Saturday, December 3rd, 2022: One of our second-grade Atoms was featured in "The BIG SHOW!" at Syracuse University. The BIG SHOW! is the overall display of art-filled education completed during the Saturday Art Workshops for Young People at SU. During this year's session, students visited the SU art museum twice, learned new techniques, and had their artwork displayed at the end of the program.
This Atom's classroom teachers and art teacher came out to support her and see her spectacular work! Way to go!
Friday, December 2nd, 2022: Syracuse Academy of Science elementary school teacher Ms. Cahalan hosts a girls' group that meets on Fridays at the end of the day. The girls talk about skills they can use to resolve social conflict healthily while having fun building with legos. The meetings are a positive experience for our Atoms and Ms. Cahalan!
Tuesday, December 6th, 2022: It was College and Career Week at Syracuse Academy of Science elementary school. Mrs. Bloss's 2B class had a parent speak to them about being a Maternity Registrar at Crouse Hospital. Ms. Shannon told second-grade Atoms about writing birth certificates and other legal documents, about babies being born in hospitals, and about the different jobs one can hold in a hospital. She also read a book to the class. Thanks so much for joining us for College and Career Week, Ms. Shannon!
Friday, November 18th, 2022: “There was an Old Lady who swallowed a Turkey! I don't know why she swallowed a turkey, but she's always been quirky!”
On November 18th, SAS elementary school's 3-A class enjoyed a read-aloud by the Dean of Elementary, Mrs. Miller. Mrs. Miller delighted the third graders with the story "There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Turkey." Syracuse Academy of Science elementary school Atoms always love having Mrs. Miller join their class to read to them!
Tuesday, December 6th, 2022: Ms. Cahalan’s ‘Kind Kiddos’ Lunch Bunch group continues to be creative in spreading kindness around their school. This month they decided to paint rocks and write positive affirmations or encouraging words on them. They placed these rocks in front of the school building for all staff and students to read as they enter the doors.
Thank you for continuing to spread the positive vibes, Kind Kiddos!

Wednesday, November 30th, 2022: As part of our Culturally Responsive Teachings, throughout November, Syracuse Academy of Science elementary Atoms worked on a family project: Family Traditions. Every family has unique traditions held near and dear to their hearts. They are part of what makes each family special and unique. Families were encouraged to talk about beloved traditions within their homes. Following this conversation, we asked families to help their students draw and write out the four steps of a family tradition to share with our community. Family traditions ranged from holiday traditions, birthdays, family vacations, and the first day of school rituals. We loved getting a glimpse into our students' families and home lives. Stay tuned for December's family project!

Wednesday, December 7th, 2022: Syracuse Academy of Science elementary school celebrated the character trait of Citizenship in November. To be a good citizen, you must do your best to improve your school, community, and country.
Students of the Month receive a dress-down pass and get to wear a Student of the Month button around school all day. Everyone that sees them gets to congratulate them for being good citizens! Great job, Atoms!
