Thursday, February 2nd, 2023: Let's kick off winter recess with a student spotlight! Seventh-grade student Jayda James became the 7th-grade social studies teacher and taught a lesson to her classmates on how power is divided in the United States government. Jayda was able to hold her classmate's attention as she walked them through the role of the legislative, executive, and judicial branches. This lesson was our student's first step into becoming involved and informed citizens!
Great job leading the lesson, Jayda!
Friday, February 10th, 2023: Time to shine the spotlight on another fabulous staff member at Syracuse Academy of Science Elementary! This is Mrs. Georgiadis-Greenwald's eighth year working for SANY. She loves working with students to help them achieve their reading goals and see the "lightbulb" moments for her kiddos. She holds several roles at SANY, including Reading Specialist, Intervention Coordinator, and Academic Coach. Mrs. Georgiadis-Greenwald graduated from SUNY Oswego. Her family inspires her. She says they have helped her become who she is and motivated her to be the best person to make them proud. Thank you for all that you do, Mrs. Georgiadis-Greenwald!
Monday, February 13th, 2023: Syracuse Academy of Science has been working with Upstate Medical University for two years to develop a medical pathway for our students. After months of these meetings and solving case studies, #SASAtoms finally visited Upstate Medical University! Participants in this program will not have to take the MCAT if they attend UMU.

Tuesday, February 7th, 2023: It doesn't HAVE to be a snowman! Each month, Syracuse Academy of Science elementary sends home projects for students to complete with their families. The projects are voluntary but encouraged so we can all glimpse each student’s family culture, traditions, and stories. We had some fun with January’s project! Families were tasked with taking an ordinary snowman outline and turning it into something else.
Take a look at the “Disguise a Snowman” family project. Thank you to all the families that participated!
