Friday, May 31, 2019—So, what is college really like? Funny you should ask. Alumnae Jamaicah and Tori share their collegiate experience and college expectations with our junior and senior Atoms. Jamaicah currently attends the University at Albany and Tori currently attends Canisius College.
Monday, May 20, 2019—A nautical field trip awaited our Atoms as they set sail with Mid-Lake Navigation on a Skaneateles Lake cruise. With the sun and a few clouds in the sky our scholars bundled up and headed out to the open waters. Atoms learned about the historic town of Skaneateles, experienced sightseeing from the top deck of the boat, viewed beautiful homes of VIPs in Central New York, and learned fun facts about the lake.
Friday, June 7, 2019—We are just two weeks away from the class of 2019 graduation, which means … it's time to 'flashback' to the class of 2017. Join us each week on Facebook as we share one video every Friday leading up to graduation as we get ready to celebrate. We'll save the pomp and circumstance for then … but in the meantime, sit back, relax and enjoy these videos. Please stay tuned for more details on graduation.
Thursday, May 23, 2019—You can never be too prepared especially when an extreme disaster occurs. Fifth grade Atoms researched projects on extreme disasters that can occur in New York state, such as snow storms, flooding, tornados, just to name a few. John Hutchinson, a local TLC EMT, visited the classroom to speak about disaster preparedness with the students. When it comes to any type of disaster it is important to come up with a plan. From having an emergency kit, to how to leave a house in an emergency, to important items you might want in you car, all valuable information so our Atoms can be prepared for whenever a disaster might strike.
Friday, May 17, 2019—I scream. You scream. Atoms scream for … ice scream! It was a great pleasure to reward over 200 Atoms for their positive behavior and DOJO points. To celebrate, they had a choice of an ice cream cone, ice cream sandwich, or an ice cream bar. To add an extra bit of sweetness (or should we say citrus) to this already tasty treat, Atoms received a special surprise visit from Syracuse University's Otto the Orange. During this week, Atoms also partook in 'College Week'. Keep up the great work Atoms!
Wednesday, May 22, 2019—It's with great excitement and joy that we share SaQuota Reaves' book, "Wholeness can Come from Broken Pieces," was recently published. The book is about moving from living a life of hurt and pain to living a life full of freedom and peace. Readers go on a journey that explains the importance of sorting through one's life piece by piece until they reach their goal - wholeness. Using personal experiences to help the readers unpack their emotions while helping them move to a place where they can be authentically themselves. A book that challenges you in every way possible and to push you forward in your personal journey of divine healing.
SaQuota Reaves is the founder of Divine Healing, a mentorship and publishing company. She obtained degrees in African American Studies, Women's and Gender Studies and Special Education from Syracuse University and Grand Canyon University.
It is teachers like SaQuota Reaves that we are able to build success, one Atom at a time. Congratulations on this major accomplishment!

Friday, May 31, 2019—A student activity club that is filled with ooey gooey goodness, and leaves you with a mouth watering feeling - the Baking Club. One of SASCS' newest student activity club is rising in popularity. Featured in Family Times: The Parenting Guide of Central New York as the Club of the Month. This club began out of student interest after a trip to the library to look at some cookbooks. The club is geared to expose students to different baking projects and have them learn new things in the kitchen. Atoms have mastered the art of baking delicious goodies such as: Chinese donuts, deep-fried Oreos, dessert egg rolls, cheesecakes, and more! Remember, if you can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen.

Wednesday, May 15, 2019—It's a time honored tradition at Syracuse Academy Charter Middle school to celebrate and thank mothers and female figures in our Atom's lives for all that they do, as well as, being a role model. Today, we celebrate you at our annual Muffin's with Mom event. An afternoon filled with quality time and of course delicious and tasty muffins.
Wednesday, May 15, 2019—Cuisine is an important aspect of any country's culture. It plays an integral role in centering traditions, heritage, memories and more. As part of our fifth grade Atom's project based learning class, they had the opportunity to research Mexico and learn about its culture and cuisine. Scholars created a cookbook and presentation with the region's facts and shared their findings with an esteemed panel. Atoms will have the opportunity to prepare delicious dishes based on the recipes in their cookbook.
