On Thursday, Aprill 4, 2019, 4th graders from the Syracuse Academy of Science visited the National Women's Rights Museum in Seneca Falls, NY. Students were able to connect their learning from our novel study, The Hope Chest, to historical facts that happened right in our state. We learned about the Declaration of Sentiments and the great lengths women and men went to so that we can vote, dress how we choose, go to college, and choose our careers. The museum offers a variety of exhibits that gave us a new perspective on the rights and privileges we have today. As Elizabeth Cady Stanton said, "We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men and women are created equal."

On Saturday, March 30, 2019, the #SASCS Middle School STEM club participated in the 2019 CNY Innovation Challenge at Onondaga Community College. The Innovative Challenge aims to spark ideas and foster entrepreneurship. Our Atoms developed an idea to help eliminate plastic and cardboard waste from our schools. They conceptualized a drink machine that could be used in place of milk cartons and plastic bottles. The design of the machine was to utilize the lunch pin system by having students input their pin number into the machine and have the machine dispense the student’s drink into a biodegradable cup. The STEM team, Molles, took 2nd place in this year's challenge. Way to go, Atoms!
