Friday, February 28, 2020In celebration of Black History Month, first graders spent time with News Channel 9 anchor Jennifer Sanders! She spent some time with us explaining that she doesn't only share news on TV, but she also plays many roles behind the scenes. Before leaving, she invited the students to repeat some positive, powerful messages about how great they are and that they can achieve any dream they have with lots of hard work and determination.

Seniors Visit OCM B.O.C.E.S.

Syracuse Academy of Science Seniors Take a Tour of OCM B.O.C.E.S.

Wednesday, February 26, 2020—A group of SAS Seniors traveled to OCM B.O.C.E.S. for an information session and a tour of the facility led by Adult & Continuing Education Coordinator Matt Tarolli. Students were informed of the various trade programs available on campus, and they were able to get a grasp of a handful of the programs by visiting classrooms and workshops.

Robotics Team Wins Big at Qualifying Tournament

Syracuse Academy of Science Robotics Team Competes During the First Tech Challenge Qualifying Tournament.

Saturday, February 29, 2020—The #SASCS High School Robotics Team won big this weekend at the FIRST Tech Challenge Clarkson University Qualifying Tournament.

Recap: Our Atoms won their first F I V E matches of the day. Although they fell short in the final match, our #SASAtoms robotics team achieved the Second Alliance Captain Award and the Best Design Award at the competition. Junior Umesh Dahal was honored for his Dean's List status as well.

Making Winter A Little Warmer In Syracuse

Syracuse Academy of Science Elementary School Students Donate Gently Used Coats to the Rescue Mission

Thursday, February 27, 2020—Syracuse Academy of Science Elementary School Atoms donated six bags of gently used coats to the Syracuse Rescue Mission to help other children in need. Thank you to all of our community members who helped make this coat drive such a success.

Syracuse Academy of Science Step Team Performs for Black History Month

Wednesday, February 26, 2020—This month's Student of the Month Award Assembly featured a special performance from our very own Step Team in honor of #BlackHistoryMonth. The performance included step, a brief introduction about the importance of Black History Month, and highlighted influential leaders such as Rosa Parks. Click Here to Watch the Full Video

Awards were also presented to our most ambitious scholars during the month of February. The most Ambitious Teacher Award went to Ms. Murdie and Ms. Kovarik.

Last (but certainly not least) Science Fair Winners were announced! Congratulations to Peyton Dunlap who received first place, Jayda James and Fatima Tihic who received second place, Emmerson Auge, Jayden Howington, and Alexiana Valentin who received third place. Honorable mention went to Selassie Everett-Dahlke and Soly Bonilla. Runners up included Jayniah James, Mirandalynn De la Cruz, and Luke Scharf.

First Grade Gets a Sweet Treat

Wednesday, February 26, 2020—In celebration of #BlackHistoryMonth the owner of Crave Dessert Studio and role model, Tykemia Carman, shared her journey with our first-grade #SASAtoms. Tykemia, a graduate of the Syracuse Academy of Science, encouraged our young scholars to dream big and take risks. Atoms savored chocolate dipped pretzels along with the life-lessons—a crave specialty. Thank you, Tykemia, for sharing your time and treats with our #SASAtoms!

Wednesday, January 29, 2020—“You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.” – Maya Angelou #TBT This January Atoms filled the elementary gymnasium with their creative energy. Scholars were joined by friends and family to view original artwork made by our very own Atoms. The evening wrapped up with a surprise black light art show.

Ophelia's Place Speaks to Syracuse Academy of Science Middle School Students

Thursday, February 13, 2020—Stand tall and proud of who you are in this body. You have strength, energy, confidence and beauty to offer the world, and it flows from your head to your toes. Holly Lowery, a representative from Ophelia's Place, presented to #SASCS middle school scholars about the importance of body positivity and healthy eating practices. Promoting a message of healthy eating and accepting and embracing the diversity of all human bodies is just one way we are helping our Atoms succeed.

Syracuse Academy of Science Atom Paints at Painting With a Twist

Friday, February 14, 2020—The best gifts are from the heart. 3rd Grade took a field trip to Painting with a Twist where they showcased their artistic abilities and worked on some great pieces for the ones they loved. Each student was able to take home their work and give it to someone special.
