Tuesday, January 24th, 2023: Syracuse Academy of Science Atoms are feeling yellow but never mellow. Atoms ditched their uniform tops for their favorite yellow shirt to celebrate the second day of National School Choice Week!

Friday, January 20th, 2023: You are what you eat, and here at SANY, we believe it’s important to teach children how to make healthy choices. Ms. Tammy from Chartwells shared nutrition education with Syracuse Academy of Science elementary school 3rd Graders. Ms. Tammy taught the 3rd graders how different foods could affect their mood. 3rd graders then got to make delicious Banana Split Parfaits. The students had a great time. SAS Elementary and Chartwells are excited to be able to bring these nutrition education sessions to our scholars again!

January 18-20th, 2023: Snakes and hedgehogs and ferrets… oh my! Second-grade classes at Syracuse Academy of Science spent the day at Little Ray’s Nature Centre. #SASAtoms got a tour where they were introduced to several animals, learned about their habitats, and even touched a few! Students also got to watch a demonstration featuring snakes and tortoises. Atoms were even brave enough to touch a snake! Overall, it was an excellent experience for students to learn about animals and nature outside the classroom!
Friday, January 20th, 2023: Throughout January, SAS Elementary has been collecting donations of coats, hats, gloves, and travel-sized toiletries to donate to We Rise Above the Streets Community Outreach. K-4 Atoms and their families showed how much they care with a strong turnout for donations. We are so grateful to be part of such an amazing and generous community of staff, students, parents, friends, and families.
Great job sharing the warmth, Atoms!
Monday, January 23rd, 2023: Families have the great opportunity and responsibility to make a sound educational choice for their child, whether in a public school, public charter school like SAS, private school, or even homeschooling. Here at Syracuse Academy of Science, we recognize that great responsibility and are humbled that you and your families have decided for your child to attend our school. National School Choice Week is about just that: choice, and we thank you for choosing SAS as what is hopefully the best educational opportunity for your child!
All week, SAS elementary school will celebrate the choice that our families have made!

Saturday, January 14th, 2023: Over the weekend, congressional awards students visited Philadelphia, PA, our first capital city! The group was blessed with excellent weather, and our students had a chance to learn more about their country's history by visiting the Independence National Historical Park, the Liberty Bell, and the President's House Site! Most of our students didn't know that Philadelphia served as our nation's capital until 1800, when the federal government moved to its permanent home in Washington, DC. After visiting Independence Park, they walked around Downtown Philadelphia, visited China Town and had lunch at Philadelphia Reading Terminal Market, where they had a chance to choose from a variety of food vendors! Finally, atoms visited the Philadelphia Museum of Art, where the popular stairs from the movie "Rocky" are.
Overall, it was a beautiful, educational, and enjoyable trip for everyone!

Ms. AB received her Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from SUNY Oswego. She loves spending time with her family and is most inspired by her students! Ms. AB is a dedicated art teacher who loves sharing her knowledge and skill set with all students. Thank you, Ms. AB, for being an integral part of our team!
Monday, January 9th, 2023: Did you know Meditation can help improve student behavior? Mediation has been shown to help with improved memory and concentration, increased confidence and self-esteem, and can even lead to higher grades and test scores. At Syracuse Academy of Science elementary school, one of our 4th-grade Atoms has been working with Social-Emotional Support Specialist Ms. Cahalan to practice some Meditation skills. Recently, that student has begun offering his services to one of our 3rd-grade classes.
