Saturday, January 25, 2020—#SASAtoms from the Middle School competed in the CNY Regional VEX IQ Robotics Challenge organized by Museum of Science & Technology - MOST
⚪ In the qualification round, our 7th-grade team ranked 4th out of more than 30 teams and received the highest score among all teams from Central New York schools.
⚪ At the end of the final rounds, the 7th-grade team won 3rd place.
⚪ The 5th-grade team won the most prestigious "Excellence Award"
⚪ The 7th-grade team was also awarded the "Sportsmanship Award."

Friday, January 17, 2020—Students from the SAS High School Choir sang as part of a fundraiser for the Rescue Mission hosted at Raymour and Flanigan. Students entertained attendees with a variety of popular songs from the past 40 years. We were thrilled to be invited to help support the Rescue Mission's work.
Thursday, January 23, 2020—The #STEAM club at #SASCS MS burned the midnight oil to finish up their projects for the Global Canvas Art Competition. Atoms have been creating representations of endangered species and their environments of recycled materials. The final pieces were submitted on January 28. Wish our Atoms the best of luck! This is a global competition, and winning pieces could end up on display at London’s famous Natural History Museum!

Saturday, January 18, 2020—Is your phone charged? Did you bring an extra jacket? What is the address of the hotel again? You brought what kind of shoes?! During a recent trip to Boston, it was Juniors Daniel Pontello and Ron'Nal Glover's responsibility to ask the planning questions. In pursuit of The Congressional Award, Atoms must successfully plan an Exploration trip to an unfamiliar culture. Juniors Pontello and Glover chose to explore a new historical area or culture by coordinating a trip to the city of Boston. Atoms walked the cobblestone streets of the North End, turned through the courtyard at Harvard and explored the sights and smells of Faneuil Hall Marketplace. Way to go, Atoms!

Thursday, January 16, 2020—Middle school teachers and staff gathered for their first Collaborative Learning Partnership meeting also known as "Breakfast Club" as a first step in strengthening their bond as colleagues and growing as educators. Over danishes and orange juice, they discussed the goals of the partnership and their vision for the middle school.
Wednesday, January 15, 2020—Atoms in grades K-4 that earned 75 plus dojo points in the month of December earned a special “Frozen Themed craft afternoon.” Complete with a Frozen sing alongside, Olaf puppets, Elsa crowns, and 2-D snowflakes! The PBIS committee loves to celebrate the hard work of students with different rewards monthly. Can’t wait for next month--a bounce house extravaganza!
Wednesday, January 15, 2020—Fourth Grade Atoms visited Meachem Ice Rink for a morning of exercise and fun. Many students had never ice skated before, and they used their growth mindset to get back up and keep trying. Teachers were so proud of their Atoms for not giving up and helping their friends. Whether someone needed help getting up off the ice, or some encouragement to keep going, there was always a friend willing to lend a helping hand! Thank you, Meachem Ice Rink, for the wonderful visit.
Tuesday, January 21, 2020—Congratulations are in order for Syracuse Academy of Science Junior Huda Ali. Ali earned an Honorable Mention in the 2020 Central New York Scholastic Art Awards program. Her work was selected from over 4,600 entries for special recognition. Congratulations on this great achievement! Her piece, along with the winning pieces from other students, will be on display in the Whitney Applied Technology Center through February 28th.
