It's time to shine the spotlight on one of our outstanding teachers! Mr. Metz is a teacher at Syracuse Academy of Science Elementary school. He is originally from Ilion, New York. He graduated from SUNY Potsdam with a BA in History and Theatre and an MST in Childhood Education.
Mr. Metz has been teaching in various roles for almost a decade. He has lived and worked in both New York and North Carolina. Theatre and sports are some of his favorite pastimes. He works a second job with the Syracuse Mets and is involved in Community Theatre. Mr. Metz enjoys attending SU Basketball and Football games and Syracuse Crunch Hockey. He is a fan of Disney and will never say no to a slice of pizza. His mom and dad most inspire Mr. Metz, and he must like to give positive feedback because his most used emoji is the thumbs-up emoji!
This is Mr. Metz's first year with Syracuse Elementary, and we couldn't be happier to have him on our team. Thank you for all you do day in and day out, Mr. Metz!
Friday, September 30th, 2022: Syracuse Academy of Science 4th-grade students experienced life outside the classroom! These adventurous Atoms explored Beaver Lake Nature Center in Baldwinsville. Students took guided tours of the bog and woods and learned about different species of trees and animals that live in the environment, and they even got to see some cranberries growing! As these students had just wrapped up their ecology unit, they asked some very informed questions and were able to apply what they learned to a real-world environment.
What do you get if you divide the circumference of a pumpkin by its diameter? A pumpkin pi!
On Monday, October 3rd, Syracuse Academy of Science first graders didn't make any pumpkin pie, but they did get to visit Tim's Pumpkin patch. The farm in Marietta is a fall staple for families here in Central New York. Students took a tractor wagon ride, picked pumpkins, and enjoyed delicious cider and donuts.
It was a gourd-tastic way to kick off October!
Thursday October 6th, 2022: Twelve exceptional 4th graders were selected to share a special breakfast with our SANY Superintendent, Dr. Tolga Hayali. Students joined Dr. Hayali and Dean, Mrs. Miller, in the cafeteria for waffles, turkey bacon, fresh fruit, milk, and juice. Dr. Hayali and our 4th graders discussed why they were chosen to represent their grade, their goals for the future, and what they would change in our school if they were the principal. Students were excited to be selected, and Dr. Hayali enjoyed spending time with these Atoms.
