Tuesday, April 29th, 2025: Syracuse Academy of Science Middle School students wrapped up an exciting flag football unit in Physical Education! Throughout the unit, students worked hard on developing key skills such as teamwork, communication, offensive and defensive strategies, and invasion techniques.
With girls' flag football gaining popularity in high school athletics, some students may be future stars. The boys also had a great time showcasing their throwing and catching abilities on the field.
It was a fun and active way to build sportsmanship and school spirit—great job, Atoms!
Friday, April 25th, 2025: Third and fourth grade Atoms at Syracuse Academy of Science Elementary School celebrated academic excellence on the 2023–24 New York State ELA and Math exams.
Students in 4th grade who scored a level 3 or 4 on one or both exams received gift certificates generously donated by the Terra Science Foundation. This year, 50 percent of the 4th grade cohort received awards—the most ever recognized by Dean Mrs. Miller!
3rd graders joined the celebration to cheer on their classmates and get a glimpse of the exciting incentives that await them after this year’s exams.
We are incredibly proud of all our 4th-grade students for their hard work and perseverance, and we’re excited to see the great things ahead for both 3rd and 4th grade this year.
Wednesday, April 23rd, 2025: Mrs. Swidowski’s fifth-grade science class at Syracuse Academy of Science became a team of scientists and detectives during an exciting hands-on lab called “What’s in the Bag?”
Students used their observation skills to investigate what happens when a mystery substance is added to water. As they watched the mixture react and change, they made predictions, took detailed notes, and discussed their findings with classmates.
Like real scientists, Atoms collected and analyzed data to form solid conclusions about the new substance they created. This engaging lab allowed students to explore chemical reactions while building critical thinking and teamwork skills.
Great job, young scientists! Keep exploring, questioning, and discovering!
Friday, May 2nd, 2025: Each year, the first Friday in May marks School Lunch Hero Day—a time to recognize the dedication and care of the incredible individuals who fuel our students' days with nutritious meals and warm smiles.
At Syracuse Academy of Science Elementary School, our students showed their appreciation in a creative and heartfelt way. During Art Class, they worked together to design and sign a special poster in honor of our cafeteria team—the true heroes behind the scenes who make a difference every day.
Our food service team plays a vital role in our school community, from serving balanced meals to fostering a welcoming cafeteria environment. Thank you for everything you do to keep our scholars nourished, energized, and ready to learn!
Happy School Lunch Hero Day!
Tuesday, April 29th, 2025: On a recent visit to Syracuse Academy of Science, high school students had the opportunity to hear directly from two members of the Syracuse Police Department: Sergeant Dallas Pelz and Officer Shaquille Muhammad, a proud SAS alum.
The visit was more than just a presentation. It was a meaningful conversation about public service, perseverance, and the impact of education. Officer Muhammad shared his journey from an SAS student to a law enforcement officer, offering a powerful example of how dedication and hard work in high school can shape a prosperous future.
Sergeant Pelz and Officer Muhammad explained what it takes to become a police officer, discussed the challenges and rewards of protecting and serving the community, and emphasized the importance of integrity and commitment. They also encouraged students to stay focused on their goals and to take their education seriously, as it forms the foundation for every career path.
The visit left a lasting impression on our Atoms, who were inspired by the officers' real-life stories and relatable advice.
Thank you, Sergeant Pelz and Officer Muhammad, for giving your time, sharing your experiences, and showing our students what it means to lead with purpose and pride.
