Friday, November 1st, 2024: Syracuse Academy of Science Middle School was thrilled to welcome renowned artist Jaleel Campbell for an unforgettable visit! His unique style, passion for art, and valuable insights into building a successful artistic career in Syracuse captivated Our Atoms.
During his visit, scholars had the opportunity to dive into Jaleel’s creative journey, asking thoughtful questions about his inspiration, artistic process, and the dedication it takes to thrive in the art world. Jaleel’s stories and advice resonated deeply with our students, sparking their curiosity and encouraging them to pursue their own creative passions.
We extend a heartfelt thank you to Jaleel Campbell for taking the time to inspire our young artists and share his incredible talent. Your visit left a lasting impression; we can’t wait to see more of your amazing work in the future!
Monday, November 11th, 2024: This Veteran’s Day, Mrs. Bloss’ second-grade Syracuse Academy of Science Atoms created something truly special to honor those who serve: heartfelt letters to Veterans in our community and active military personnel overseas. Each letter was a token of gratitude, filled with kind words, drawings, and appreciation for their sacrifices and service.
Adding to the significance of the day, the class welcomed a very special guest: Mr. Josh, a Veteran who served 18 months in Iraq. During his time in the Army, Mr. Josh earned two Purple Hearts for his courage and dedication. He shared stories of his experiences, giving our scholars a deeper understanding of the bravery and sacrifices made by our service members.
Mr. Josh’s visit was a powerful moment for the students, inspiring them with his resilience and commitment to protecting others. His stories educated and left a lasting impression on the importance of honoring and respecting those who have served.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Mr. Josh for his service and for teaching our young scholars the true meaning of bravery and sacrifice. Your visit made this Veteran’s Day unforgettable for our students and staff alike.
Thank you, Veterans, for all you do!
Saturday, November 9th, 2024: Fourth-grade Syracuse Academy of Science Elementary Bridge Building Club members proudly represented their school at the annual Bridges Challenge at the Museum of Science and Technology (MOST). Competing in the Junior Division, the SAS toms worked in teams to construct efficient bridges using only balsa wood and glue, testing their designs against those from other schools.
Though the teams did not place in the Junior Division, their hard work and enthusiasm earned them the Team Spirit Award—a testament to their collaboration, positivity, and support for each other throughout the challenge.
The experience was a fantastic opportunity for our young scholars to explore engineering concepts hands-on, build resilience, and gain confidence through teamwork. Congratulations to our SAS Elementary Bridge Building Club for their outstanding effort and team spirit!
Saturday, November 9th, 2024: Congratulations to Syracuse Academy of Science Middle School 6th-grade students for their outstanding achievement at the MOST Bridges Challenge! Competing against teams from across the region, these talented scholars built a bridge recognized for its strength and engineering efficiency, securing a well-deserved first-place win!
The winning team—Yussuf Farah, Nahla Barnes, Stanly Banos, Ghaith Wazir, and Leila Barnes—demonstrated remarkable creativity, teamwork, and technical skills. Together, they constructed a bridge using balsa wood and glue, meeting the challenge of designing the most efficient structure to support a heavy load.
Special appreciation goes to the teachers, family members, and supporters who encouraged these remarkable young engineers throughout their preparation and competition. This victory marks a proud moment for the school and showcases SAS students' hard work and determination.
Saturday, November 9th, 2024: The Syracuse Academy of Science High School Robotics Club proudly participated in the Bridges Challenge at the Museum of Science and Technology (MOST), bringing six teams to compete. Demonstrating remarkable engineering skills and creativity, the SAS Atoms achieved outstanding results, securing first and third place in the high school division and the Best Name Award!
First Place: Selena Ramsdale and Mahir Yavuz
Third Place: Araceli Goodyear and Mickayla Pagan
Best Name Award: "Arch Enemies" — Gianna Ciciaralli and Ghadeer Alomeri
The competition challenged teams to design and build bridges that balanced strength with weight efficiency, with each bridge evaluated based on the load it could carry relative to its mass.
These achievements reflect the hard work, dedication, and innovative spirit of the scholars. Please join in congratulating these talented students on their success!
Building a love for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, SAS remains committed to nurturing students’ potential in these fields. Their performance at the Bridges Challenge demonstrates the powerful combination of talent and determination among the SAS community. Let the success continue as these students aim high and build bridges to the future!
