
Friday, March 11th, 2022—Creepy crawlers, bugs and insects - the 2nd-grade students in Mrs. Bloss’ class at Syracuse Academy of Science elementary school are sending you ‘bugs’ and kisses.
As the Atoms prepared for their science lesson on insects, each student received their very own mealworm ‘pet.’ For this science experiment, Atoms were required to observe and record any and all daily changes to learn about the mealworm’s life cycle. Not to be out done, the Atoms also learned about the life cycle, anatomy and unique structure of crickets.

Tuesday, March 1st, 2022—Syracuse Academy of Science elementary school celebrated Youth Art; a program started in 1961 by the Art & Creative Materials Institute, Inc. (ACMI) - cooperating with the NAEA - a program administered by the Council for Art Education (CAE). Schools participating in Youth Art Month each March focus on the following goals.

Saturday, April 2nd, 2022—Innovation begins here, as Syracuse Academy of Science middle school’s STEAM club not only participated in the CNY STEM Hub’s CNY Innovation Challenge, but also placed 2nd with the idea of a pencil dispenser.
For those not familiar with the CNY Innovation Challenge, it aims to spark ideas for developing unique products or services while fostering entrepreneurship. This challenge is open to students in grades 6th - 12th. Teams must have a minimum of 2 students maximum of 4 students.
This is the second year in a row that Syracuse Academy of Science middle school has placed in the CNY Innovation Challenge! Congratulations, Atoms, and keep up the great work.

Friday, April 1st, 2022—Throughout March, Syracuse Academy of Science elementary school Atoms demonstrated the character trait of respect and the importance of being respectful to others. Students learned that to show respect for someone means to act in a way that demonstrates that you care about their feelings and well-being.
We want to give our Atoms a big round of applause and congratulations for not only being so respectful but for being selected as March's Students of the Month!

Saturday, April 2nd, 2022—A beautiful spring day, an afternoon spending time with your friends, volunteering and giving back to the community. All in a day’s work for the Syracuse Academy of Science high school Congressional Awards students.
Last weekend, the Atoms dedicated a portion of their day to giving back to the community by raking leaves at Green Lakes State Park. The hours spent raking leaves will go towards the total volunteer hours needed for the Congressional Awards program. Way to go, Atoms; we are so proud of you!

Friday, March 18th, 2022—Last month, Syracuse Academy of Science elementary school and high school students were awarded for their outstanding achievements in New York State testing from the 2020 - 2021 school year. To celebrate their success, Atoms received a gift card from Terra Science and Education.
In addition, Syracuse Academy of Science elementary school students in the third and fourth grades were invited to the presentation ceremony to help motivate and provide incentives for this year's New York State testing.

Friday, March 25th, 2022—Syracuse Academy of Science high school's 9th-grade students kicked off their Shakespeare unit by attending a modern-day performance of Macbeth at the Red House Arts Center.
This modern Macbeth performance follows a brave Scottish general who receives a prophecy from a trio of witches that he will become King one day. Consumed by ambition and spurred to action by his wife, Macbeth murders King Duncan and takes the Scottish throne for himself. He is then wracked with guilt and paranoia.
Redhouse Artistic Director Temar Underwood directs this play with the titular role performed by Jon Hoche, who was the voice and puppeteer behind King Kong on Broadway.

Tuesday, March 15th, 2022—Congratulations to the Syracuse Academy of Science middle school students who received a proficient score on the ELA and Math State tests for the 2021 - 2022 Academic year.
Students were eligible to receive a $75 Terra Science and Education junior scholarship award. The goal of the scholarship is to challenge students to do their best and prepare for future high-stakes tests such as the Regents exams and SAT/ACT exams.
