#SASAtoms take a WILD Field Trip

On Thursday, May 10th, 2018 the fourth-graders took a field trip to The Wild Animal Park in Chittenango. #SASAtoms pet and fed animals, such as llamas, deer, goats, giraffes, and even a bull. The Wild offers different animal demonstrations every day. We were able to learn about alligators, black bears, and tigers. We learned that The Wild has the only white Bengal tiger in New York State! The students really enjoyed being up close and personal with these beautiful animals and made connections to our animal adaptations unit as we made our way through the exhibits.  Go Atoms!

SUNY ESF Hosts #SASCS Students

On Monday, Apr 9th 2018, Syracuse Academy of Science High School (SASCS-HS) students; Joseph Capra (10), Jade Regner (10), and Dianelis Zapata-Perez (10) visited SUNY-ESF. The trip was coordinated by the outreach program and hosted by Dr. Neal Abrams, Jacob O'Connell and Maura H. Stefl. The campus visit started with a brief visit to Gateway Center where students had an opportunity to learn different aspects of the building that uses renewable energy. After the arrival of other high schools, Dr. Abrams gave an entertaining presentation. SASCS-HS students joined their peers from other high schools and worked on a group activity, building system diagram on a product they had on that day. Following the activity, students had lunch and left the campus. The trip was very valuable and informative for students. They learned about future career opportunities related to renewable energies. Thank you SUNY ESF. Go Atoms! #SASCS #SASAtoms

Talking about feelings with #SASCS Elementary Students

On Thursday, May 3rd, 2018 students discussed the important topic of feelings. Mr. Derek from the McMahon/Ryan Child Advocacy Center came and read ?"Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good Very Bad Day" ? to Ms. Peryea's class. Mr. Derek discussed feelings and who our "feelings helpers" can be at home and at school. We strive to teach students to communicate their feelings in a healthy and productive way. To teach them to differentiate between good and bad feelings, and how to handle the bad feelings, so that they can then turn into good ones with positive outcomes. Students were sent home with a feelings coloring book to fill in and discuss with their parents. Thank you, Mr. Derek, for a wonderful presentation. Go Atoms! #SASAtoms#SASAtoms
