Friday, November 14th, 2025: 8th-grade students spent the day working alongside our partners from Prevention Network CNY. The focus of the visit centered on strengthening communication and building effective teamwork skills.
Students participated in hands-on activities that challenged them to collaborate, problem-solve, and reflect on how communication impacts group success. Through these exercises, students identified their strengths, recognized areas for improvement, and shared strategies for overcoming obstacles together.
We are grateful to Prevention Network CNY for helping our students build important skills that support both academic growth and healthy peer relationships!

Thursday, November 6th, 2025: Students in Mrs. Waite’s Syracuse Academy of Science's 1C class are diving into a science lesson all about tortoises. As they explore facts about these fascinating reptiles, they’re also practicing how to “talk like scientists” by using observation skills, asking questions, and applying academic vocabulary.
Hands-on learning like this helps young scholars build curiosity, confidence, and strong communication skills; one discovery at a time!

Monday, November 10th, 2025: At the start of each month, the Syracuse Elementary School Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Team visits every classroom to teach students about the monthly character trait and other important SEL skills. These lessons help students develop self-awareness, manage emotions, foster stronger relationships, and grow into confident learners.
This week, School Counselor Ms. Cahalan visited the Kindergarten classrooms to introduce coping skills—strategies students can use to calm their bodies and minds when they feel sad, angry, or worried. Learning how to recognize and regulate emotions is a crucial part of child development, contributing to stronger academic performance, improved behavior, and healthier social interactions.
During the lesson, students learned that they can manage “big emotions” by taking the following steps:
Identify the feeling by “scanning your brain and body.”
Determine what is needed in the moment (e.g., alone time, movement, cheering up, or distraction).
Select a coping strategy that fits the need (such as taking a water break, reading, coloring, or talking to a friend).
Some useful coping strategies students practiced included taking alone time, getting up and moving around, finding a distraction, and talking to a trusted friend or adult.
By integrating SEL into daily learning, SAS Elementary School ensures that students not only grow academically but also develop the emotional tools they need for success in and out of the classroom.

Saturday, December 20th, 2025: The Syracuse Academy of Science and the Citizenship & Science Academy of Syracuse's Junior-Varsity and Varsity boys' basketball teams took the court against their fellow SANY school, Syracuse Academy of Science Charter School, in a competitive Atoms matchup.
Both levels of play highlighted what SANY athletics stands for—teamwork, discipline, effort, and sportsmanship. From strong communication on the court to mutual respect between teams, the games served as valuable learning experiences for our student-athletes.
These matchups continue to help our JV and Varsity players grow, build chemistry, and strengthen momentum as the season progresses. We are proud of how our scholars represented their school and the SANY community on and off the court.

Monday, November 24th, 2025: Syracuse Academy of Science Elementary School proudly recognized our Students of the Month for exemplifying the character trait of Citizenship throughout the month. These scholars consistently demonstrate what it means to contribute to a positive school environment and support their community. We commend their commitment to making our school a better place for all.

Friday, November 14th, 2025: Several Syracuse Academy of Science students were invited to have lunch with SANY Superintendent Dr. Hayali and Board President Dr. Zaim, Associate Professor of Management and Associate Dean at Alfred University. The students had the opportunity to have an open discussion with administrators. This special event gives our scholars the chance to voice their ideas, opinions, and perspectives on their education with leadership.
Thank you, Dr. Zaim, for your time and partnership!

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2025: Syracuse Academy of Science fifth-grade students visited Baltimore Woods in Marcellus for an exciting hands-on science experience!
During the trip, students learned about the different types of animals, including carnivores, omnivores, and herbivores. While exploring the nature trails, they investigated clues such as animal skulls and footprints to determine which creatures were predators and which were prey.
Through these activities, students gained a deeper understanding of the food chain while enjoying a day of hiking and outdoor exploration. It was an engaging and educational experience that brought science to life outside the classroom!

Thursday, October 16th, 2025: Miss Woodhams’ 6th graders had a fun and educational celebration of her birthday in class!
Students engaged in a variety of hands-on ELA activities, including:
Writing plans for a surprise party with a focus on sensory details
Completing a Mad Libs activity to practice parts of speech
Playing charades to strengthen the concept of “showing rather than telling”
Participating in a word association game to expand vocabulary
It was a creative and interactive way to combine celebration with learning, making the classroom a fun place to explore language and writing.

Thursday, October 23rd, 2025: What a fantastic night for the Syracuse Academy of Science Middle School community at Boo Bash!

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined the celebration, and to the volunteers, staff, and families who helped make the event a huge success. We loved seeing so many creative costumes and smiling faces throughout the night!
