Sunday, April 7th, 2024: Syracuse Academy of Science Elementary School Science Fair Winners had the fantastic opportunity to showcase their projects in the CNY Science & Engineering Fair hosted at the Most. Scholars saw projects from students of all ages across Central New York and presented their own projects to the judges.
We are very proud of how hard they worked to prepare and how well they represented our school at the fair! Congratulations to Isaiah, Ti’jadin, Daniel, and Jayce for participating! Congratulations to Angelina and Everly for receiving honors! Congratulations, Atoms! Keep up the excellent work!
Sunday, March 24th, 2024: Each Year, Region 3 of the New York State Art Teachers Association sponsors an exhibit at the Beaver Lake Nature Center. The exhibit is titled "Student Art-Naturally." Syracuse Academy of Science Elementary School's Art Teacher, Ms. Alonso-Bergevin, is the exhibit's coordinator!
This year, artwork from eight SAS Elementary students was featured. On Sunday, March 24th, there was an Artists' Reception, and students received a certificate to honor their participation.
Congratulations to these artists!
Saturday, March 23rd, 2024: Syracuse Academy of Science Elementary's Everly showcased her incredible spelling talents at the Regional Spelling Bee! Remember when Everly finished 3rd place at our school spelling bee? She continued to shine, progressing through the online rounds and earning her spot in the Final Regional Bee hosted by the Post-Standard/Syracuse.com!
This is an outstanding achievement, considering Everly was the lone 4th grader to advance to this level! Though she faced tough competition, Everly's remarkable journey saw her through to the 2nd round, ultimately securing an impressive 17th place in the county!
Congratulations, Everly! Your school family couldn't be prouder of your dedication and accomplishments! ‘
Friday, March 22nd, 2024: Syracuse Academy of Science Elementary School celebrated 4th graders for their efforts on last year's NYS ELA and Math tests. Terra Science and Education provided gift cards for students who achieved 3's and/or 4's on their tests.
This year, we passed out the most awards ever, with 33 students being recognized! Four of those scholars received a four on BOTH tests!
School Dean Mrs. Miller also has an important message for all Atoms: Even if they didn't get an award this year, and even if they don't get one next year, as long as every student tries their best, we are always going to be so proud of them.
Great job, students!
Friday, March 8th, 2024: Syracuse Academy of Science Elementary School invited two guest speakers for International Women's Day. Marlena Jackson of the Syracuse Police Department spoke with third graders about her role as a police officer in the community. Sharon Alestalo from Syracuse University's Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) Program spoke with fourth graders about the importance of STEM education and working in the field as a woman.
We are so grateful to have such fantastic role models in our community.
Monday, February 26th, 2024: Syracuse Academy of Science High School scholars were on the road again for another college visit! This time, they visited SUNY Geneseo and learned all about the programs offered and campus life. The best way to know if a school is a good fit is to go and visit, and these Atoms are taking advantage of all the opportunities to do just that.
Saturday, March 9th, 2024: The Syracuse Academy of Science Middle School STEAM Club is building future frontiers and women in STEM. The club went to the Museum of Science and Technology for a presentation from the Future Women in STEM event. The girls learned about how they are using drones in the medical field. Unfortunately, they could not fly the drones outside due to the weather, but students saw a video of them delivering medical supplies to the hospital instead!
Tuesday, March 5th, 2024: Crazy, silly, frumpy, or frilly: Day 2 of Read Across America Week at Syracuse Academy of Science Elementary was Hat Day! Atoms and staff wore their favorite hats to school to celebrate their love of reading and Dr. Seuss's birthday.
Thursday, March 7th, 2024: As part of our Read Across America Week, Syracuse Academy of Science Elementary School students brought their best-stuffed buddies into school to read with! Reading to a stuffed friend helps students practice fluency and dictation and builds confidence. Atoms had a great time showing off their stuffies, and the stuffed friends also enjoyed their time at school for the day!
Sunday, March 3rd, 2024: The Syracuse Academy of Science robotics teams "SAS ATOMS" and "NEW WAVE" showcased their talent and dedication at the MVCC Regional First Tech Challenge (FTC) robotics tournament.
